Born in Dublin, Ireland, Patrick Cahill has been working as a professional artist for over 40 years. Following an early career in graphics and illustration, he pursued his passion for fine art and devoted himself exclusively to painting.

Having initially specialised in watercolour, Patrick moved into oil painting. While much of his work captures the unique character of his native city and its people, in recent years, he has applied his talent for urbanscape to many other European cities, including Rome, Paris, Venice and Prague.

While noted for his urbanscapes, including scenes from the famous Smithfield Horse Fair, Patrick is also a talented figure painter. His painting style could be described as 'alla prima,' and his work is cognisant that the artist's application of the brush stroke is as important as the poet's choice of word.

Patrick is a long-standing member of the Dublin Painting and Sketching Club and the Watercolour Society of Ireland. He has showcased his work regularly in the RHA and Oireachtas exhibitions, in addition to annual exhibitions of the DPSC and WCSI. He exhibits widely in leading galleries across Ireland, including solo exhibitions, and previously showed annually at the Wexford Opera Festival.

He has won a number of prestigious awards, both in Ireland and internationally. He was previously elected to the Copley Society of Art in Boston, the oldest non-profit art association in the US.

Patrick receives commissions from both public and private organisations. His work has been held in collections housed in the An Garda Siochana Headquarters, Wexford Chamber of Commerce, Kildare County Council, Limerick University, St. Vincent's Hospital, among other institutions.
